Programme Objectives
The programme is designed to :
expand understanding of mental health and mental disorders
through critically adopting systemic and bio-psycho-social-
spiritual frameworks;
develop advanced clinical knowledge and practical skills in
mental health practice for both common and severe mental
illnesses;
master research methods essential for informing clinical
decision and policy making; and
develop lifelong vision for pursuing the best mental health
practice and advocating for good mental health and
rehabilitation policies.

Programme structure
Students are required to complete
Five compulsory courses; AND
Five elective courses; OR
A dissertation with three elective courses; OR
CBT supervised practice with three elective courses
(pre-requisite: SOWK6127 Cognitive behavioral interventions &
SOWK6311 Cognitive behaviour therapy skills training)

In the first year,
Acquire most current knowledge about the contexts, policies
and practices in mental health
Introduce advanced practical knowledge and skills in psychiatric
assessment and mental health counselling
In the second year,
Can choose to specialize in certain areas in mental health
