The style of formal letter is different to writing to a friend. Think of 3

You can tell if a letter is formal if they use the following:
• Formal language (no slang)
• Clear paragraphs and if it is handwritten they will be indented
• Signs off formally with “yours faithfully” or “yours sincerely”
• Spelling and grammar has been checked

Writing letters will help you to practise your writing skills in a formal way. You can apply
this to many different situations at work.
Write a letter complaining about bad customer service at a shop.
