SOLAR SYSTEM Solar system consists of the sun,the eight planets and their satellites and millions of smaller celestial objects such as Asteroids, comets and meteorites. According to their order, the planets are Mercury, Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter, Saturn,Uranus,Neptune. THE SUN The sun is a star having a system of planets around it. The sun is an extremely hot object having temperature 6000 degree celcius and consists mostly of Hydrogen gas. The sun is the main source of heat and light to Earth. PLANETS Heavenly bodies that revolve around the sun in an elliptical path called orbits are known as planets. They reflect sunlight that’s why look bright. They are divided into two categories- the terrestrial and the jovian planets. TERRESTRIAL PLANETS :MERCURY (BUDH) It lies closer to the sun. It’s a dry ,hot,airless planet. It is known as MORNING or EVENING STAR because it visible just before sunrise or immediately after the sunset. It takes 88 days to complete one revolution. VENUS(SHUKRA) It is the brightest object in our universe after the sun and moon. Its surface is hotter than mercury because of the high percentage of carbon- dioxide in its surface. It is also known as morning or evening star. It also shows phases like moon.
