ABSTRACT
DEWI ADRIYANTI, 2015. The use of Australasian Debate Technique to Increase
the Students Speaking Ability at the Second Year of SMA 1 Sungguminasa (A
Classroom Action Research). Under supervisor Erwin Akib and Maharida.
The research questions of this research were How is the use of Australasian
Debate Technique to increase the students speaking ability in terms of accuracy
(pronunciation )? How is the affectiveness Australasian debate technique to increase
the students speaking ability in terms of fluency ( self-confidence ) ?
The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The aims of this
research were to find out The use of Australasian debate technique to Increase the
students Speaking Ability. Two cycles had been conducted, where each cycle
consisted of four meetings. It employed speaking test (memories vocabulary) as
instrument. A number of subjects of the research were 48 students at Class XI MIA
10 of SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency conducted of 35 women and 13
men. The researcher took real data from the school to knew the students speaking
ability.
The results of the students speaking test in cycle 1 and cycle 2 had increased
in different scores. There was increasing by students at the end action of second
cycle. The research findings indicated that use of Australasian debate technique could
increase the students speaking ability. The mean scores of students in cycle 1 was
69, and after revision in the cycle 2 the mean score in cycle 2 was 79 with increasing
from cycle I to cycle II was 15%.
The result of the students activeness in the first meeting of cycle I was
75,78% then it became 77,47% in fourth meeting of cycle II. This result showed the
students increasing in speaking ability through Australasian debate technique.
