DEFINITION
• The Chartered Institute of Logistics and
Transport (CILT (UK)) define logistics
as, ‘The time-related positioning of
resources to meet user
requirements’, where resources
may be transport, storage, or
information (Supply-Chain Inventory
Management Forum, 2003)
ELEMENTS OF EVENT
LOGISTICS
• Whereas most logistics theory
concerns the supply of products to the
customers, event logistics includes the
efficient supply of the customer to the
product, and the supply of facilities to
and from the event site. In this sense,
it has more in common with military
logistics than modern business
logistics.
• Business logistics is an on-going
activity and is part of the continual
management of a company.
• Military and event logistics often
concern a specific project or campaign
rather than the continuing
management. There is a definite
preparation, lead up, execution and
shutdown.
