Coding Tutorials with Make Code
Microsoft MakeCode makes coding in Minecraft: Education Edition simple and easy with
block coding. With each step you complete, you will have the opportunity to explore a
specific function in the coding environment and see the actual result of that function in
the Minecraft: Education Edition world.
Each step in creating code with MakeCode is associated with different colored blocks.
Each type of block also has a particular shape much like puzzle pieces that will only fit
together if used correctly. Some blocks have editable fields where numbers or text can
be types. The numbers or text entered into the fields in the blocks are the parameters
that the code uses to produce the desired outcome.
Using MakeCode through Code Builder in Minecraft: Education Edition, you can access
various coding tutorials to assist in your learning of coding.
Steps
1. Open Minecraft: Education Edition and proceed to the template world Blocks of
Grass.
2. Type “C” to open the Code Box. Click on MakeCode.

Accessing Hour of Code Tutorials
Hour of Code is an initiative by Code.org to prove that anyone, anywhere can code and
to broaden participation in the field of computer science. Previous Hour of Code
Tutorials such as Minecraft Voyage Aquatic and Minecraft Hero’s Journey allow
students to experience Minecraft without logging into the game. These lessons can be
