Life and Work Byung-Chul Han studied metallurgy at Korea University in Seoul[2] before moving to Germany in the 1980s, where he studied philosophy, German literature and Catholic theology in Freiburg and Munich. In 1994 he defended his doctorate in Freiburg for his thesis on Martin Heidegger. In 2000, he entered the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Basel, where he obtained his habilitation. In 2010, he became a lecturer at the University of Art and Design in Karlsruhe, where he dealt with philosophy, ethics, social philosophy, phenomenology, cultural theory, aesthetics, religion, media theory and interculturalism of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. philosophy. In the years 2012-2017, he lectured on philosophy and cultural studies at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK), where he headed the general studies of the newly established Studium Generale.Han is the author of twenty books, the most recent of which are treatises on what he calls the "fatigue society", the "transparency society", and the concept of shanzhai (山寨). , a style of imitation rooted in China that he says is inherent in Chinese culture, challenges the distinction often made between genuine and counterfeit, and says practices that Western philosophy calls deconstructive already exist. Han's current work focuses on transparency as a cultural norm created by neoliberal market forces, which he understands as an insatiable drive for voluntary disclosure bordering on pornography. According to Han, the requirement of transparency promotes a totalitarian system of openness at the expense of other social values such as shame, secrecy, and trust.[4] [additional source needed] Until recently, he refused to be interviewed on radio and television and rarely made public biographical or personal information, including date of birth.[5] Thoughts Much of Han's writing is characterized by a fundamental commitment to the position of human subjects in the fast-growing, technology-driven state of late capitalism. In her books, the situation is explored from different angles: sexuality, mental health (especially burnout, depression and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), violence, freedom, technology and popular culture. See also: Infarction In The Burnout Society, Han characterizes modern society as a pathological landscape of neural disorders such as depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, borderline personality disorder, and burnout. He claims that these are not "infections" but "heart attacks" caused not by the negativity of human immunology but by an excess of positivity.[6] According to Han, driven by the need to persevere and fail as much as by ambitionwe become guilty and persecuted at the same time, we sink into isolation, self-abuse and breakdown. “In the case of immaterial production, everyone already owns the means of production. The neoliberal system is no longer a class system in the strict sense of the word. It does not consist of opposing classes. system stability”. that the subjects become self-exploiters: “Today, everyone in the enterprise is a self- exploiting worker. Men are now masters and slaves rolled into one. Even the class struggle turned into an internal struggle against itself. he became what Han calls an "achiever"; the individual does not consider himself subject to "subjects" but rather "projects: constant re-planning and reinvention of himself", which "comes in the form of coercion and imprisonment - really" a more effective form of empowerment and subordination." The project imagines itself free from external and extraneous constraints, the ego submits to internal and self-limitations, which manifests itself in coercion and optimization of performance.[9] In Agonie des Eros (The Agony of Eros), Han continues his previous book, The Fatigue Society. and thoughts developed by the "Transparency Society". Starting with an analysis of the "other", Han develops lust and love between people. Based in part on Lars von Trier's Melancholia, which Han sees as depression and coping, Han continues to develop his thesis about today's society, which is increasingly dominated by narcissism and self-reference. Hana's diagnosis extends even to the loss of desires, the loss of the ability to devote oneself to the "other", the stranger, the non-self. At this point, the subjects are obvious and unable to form relationships. These social changes pervade love and sexuality: sex and pornography, display/voyeurism and representation push love, eroticism and lust out of the public eye. An abundance of positivism and self-reference leads to a loss of confrontation. According to Han, thinking is based on the "unread," a longing for something you don't yet understand. He is closely related to Eros, so the "agony of Eros" is also "spiritual suffering". Not everything needs to be understood and "liked", not everything needs to be shared[10]. In The Topology of Violence, Han continues the analysis of society on the brink of collapse that he began with The Burnout Society. Using the relationship between violence and individuality, she shows that violence, contrary to the popular thesis that it is disappearing, has only changed appearance and operates more subtly. The material form of violence gives way to a more anonymous, desubjectivized, systemic form that does not reveal itself by merging with its antagonist - freedom. This theme is further explored in Psychopolitics, where Han explores the original concept of violence through Sigmund Freud, Walter Benjamin, Carl Schmidt, Richard Sennett, René Girard, Giorgio Agamben, Deleuze/Guattari, Michel Foucault, Michel Serres, Pierre Bourdieu, and Martin Heidegger. . At the heart of Hans's thesis is the idea that violence comes in "negative" and "positive" forms (note: these are not normative judgments about the expressions themselves): negative violence is the overt physical manifestation of violence found in war and expresses torture. terrorism, etc.; positive violence "manifests itself as overproduction, overproduction, overcommunication, overattention, and overactivity." Han warns that positive violence can be even more destructive than negativity. "Infection, invasion and infiltration gave way to infarction."[11]Khan has written on topics such as ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Burnout, Depression, Exhaustion, Internet, Love, Multitasking, Pop Culture, Power, Rationality, Religion, Social Media, Subjectivity, Fatigue, Transparency, and Violence. Hahn reception receives the Bristol Lumiere Prize [fr] along with Jacques Attali, Christophe Barbier, Philippe- Joseph Salazar and others. Fatigue Society will soon be available in 19 languages.[12] Several South Korean newspapers named it the most important book of 2012.[13] The Guardian wrote a favorable review of his 2017 book, Psychopolitics: Neoliberalism and the New Technologies of Power [14], while the Hong Kong Review of Books praised his work as "Khan's short, almost aphoristic writing style that allows complex ideas to be turned around into good ideas. readable and persuasive prose", while noting that "on other occasions, Khan uncomfortably makes poster-sized statements ("neoliberalism is 'capitalism' of the same"), emphasizing the fine line between intelligence and hypocritical slogan. "[15] The Los Angeles Review of Books described him as "the most suitable candidate for the role of the philosopher of the moment." and argued that it was "confusing cause with effect: it was not the hope of greater transparency that turned democracy into a technocracy, but the refusal of even progressives to consider the implications of information technology for the political process." quote in English: "Cause and Effect: It is not the hope of greater transparency that has transformed democracy into technocracy, but the refusal of even progressives to consider the implications of information technology for the political process."
