SPC will continue to work hard to ensure continued progress for the profession through improving the capacity and capability of pharmacists to advocate safe and effective medication use for all Singaporeans. 2 Singapore Pharmacy Council Annual Report 2017 Register of Pharmacists and Register of Specialists As at 31 December 2017, there were 3047 pharmacists on the register, where 2242 were local-trained graduates and 805 were foreign-trained graduates. The number of pharmacists increase by 172 (6%) from 2016. In 2017, there were 31 specialist pharmacists (see Figure 8 for breakdown of specialist pharmacists) on the Register of Specialists. Pharmacist’s Pledge Affirmation Ceremony 2017 SPC was honoured to have Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health, as the Guest of Honour for the Pharmacist’s Pledge Affirmation Ceremony, held on 22 Aug 2017. A total of 201 newly registered pharmacists (138 NUS graduates and 63 foreign trained pharmacists) who had completed their pre-registration training by August 2017 affirmed the pledge that day. Mr Gan addressed the audience and spoke about advancing the role of pharmacy in tandem with service and care transformation as more experienced pharmacists took up roles which were more advanced than the current basic scope of practice. Staying relevant with training and continuous progress The role of a pharmacist had evolved over the years and accordingly, the training of our pharmacists was enhanced to ensure relevance to the changing healthcare landscape. The Pharmacy Programme Review Committee commissioned by the Singapore Pharmacy Council has published the Standards for Undergraduate Pharmacy Education and Training in Singapore. This is a key milestone in improving standards for undergraduate pharmacy education and training in Singapore, so that we will continue to produce high calibre pharmacists. 3
