Residency project assignment takes into account these stated resident preferences. The RAC ensures that the project proposals are suitable residency projects. RAC members ensure that each of these criteria are met to support a project proposal. Merit of Idea There are many research questions that remain unanswered but finite resources limit us to addressing only a few. This requires us to prioritize research questions and pursue only those that can reasonably address a knowledge gap. Feasibility of Project Completion in One Year Period Residency projects must be designed, approved, implemented, and concluded within the 52 weeks of a residency year, following the estimated timeline provided on the residency website. The majority of residency projects require research ethics approval, which constitutes an important milestone that must be accounted for in the planning process. A second important milestone is the annual provincial residency research event held in May when residents present their projects. Project design must provide reasonable certainty that there will be meaningful information to present at the event. Completion date should take into account that: • Data analysis and posters must be completed by end of April; • Residency Research Night presentations are typically in mid-May each year; and • The resident is required to submit a manuscript approved by the primary preceptor for the completed project within one month of completion of their residency program (typically by mid-July) Adequacy of Support Minimum of two pharmacy preceptors, one with experience. As per Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board (CPRB) accreditation requirements, residents must be involved in project development, data collection, analysis and interpretation. They require supervision along the way, as many enter the residency program with no formal research or project management experience. The preceptor(s) must: • have research/project experience, • be familiar with the project timeline and • be able to hold the resident accountable for meeting key deadlines, • be available to the resident on an ongoing basis for necessary support throughout the year Last revised 28 January 2022 Alignment with current priorities and knowledge translation The pharmacy department is accountable to the organization for the resources they allocated to project work. Projects must align with current departmental and/or organizational priorities. There must also be a feasible knowledge translation plan. Last revised 28 January 2022
