                                    Clarification on Education Regulations-1991 and Pharm.D 
                                                                            Regulations, 2008. 
                             
                               A. Clarification to word “pass” under Regulation 5 of Education Regulations – 
                                    1991 for admission to D.Pharm and regulation 4 of Pharm.D Regulations 2008- 
                                    2009 for admission to Pharm.D Course. 
                                    a)      under  regulation  5  of  Education  Regulations,  1991  word  “pass”  means  a 
                                            candidate seeking admission to D.Pharm Part-I course shall pass in subjects of 
                                            Physics, Chemistry & Biology or Maths individually. 
                                      b)    under  regulation  4  of  Pharm.D  Regulations,  2008  word  “pass”  means  a 
                                            candidate  with 10+2 examination seeking admission to Pharm.D Part-I course 
                                            shall  pass  in  subjects  of  Physics,  Chemistry  and  Biology  or  Maths 
                                            individually. 
                               B.   Duration           of     D.Pharm  Course  under  Regulation  5  of  ER  1991.  
                                     
                                    Duration of the D.Pharm course under regulation 6 of Education Regulations, 1991 
                                    shall be for two academic years with each academic year spread over a period of not 
                                    less than one hundred and eighty working days exclusive of examination in addition 
                                    to 500 hours practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months.  
                               C.   Equivalence of Phyto Pharmacy and Phytomedicine with Pharmacognosy. 
                                      PCI  approves  M.Pharm  phyto  pharmacy  and  phyto  medicine  for  teaching 
                                      pharmacognosy in pharmacy institutions.  
                               D.  B.Pharm (Hons.) not approved. 
                                     1.  It  is  noted  by  PCI  that  some  institutions/universities  are  running  B.Pharm 
                                          (Hons.)  of 5 years duration which is not permissible under the Pharmacy Act 
                                          1948 and regulations framed thereunder . 
                                     2.  Please  note  that  B.Pharm  (Hons.)  is  not  approved  by  PCI  u/s  12  of  the 
                                          Pharmacy Act, 1948 for the purpose of registration as a pharmacist. 
                   E.  Non  Approval  of  vocational  course  in  General  Health  Care  by  CBSE  for 
                      admission to D.Pharm course under Education Regulation 1991. 
                      a) It was noted that course of study of D.Pharm under Education Regulations, 1991 
                        includes  specific  nature  of  training  and  hence  requires  higher  knowledge  of 
                        Physics,  Chemistry  and  Maths  at  10+2  level  to  understand  and  undergo  the 
                        D.Pharm course.   
                  
                         b) In view of it, it was decided not to approve vocational course in General Health 
                        Care  by  CBSE  under  regulation  5(5)  of  Education  Regulations,  1991  for 
                        admission to D.Pharm course.
