Harrison's principles of internal medicine in Italian Harrison is an American textbook on internal medicine. [1] It was first published in 1950, in the 20th edition (published in 2018 by McGraw-Hill Professional ISBN 978-1259644030) and comes in two volumes. Although it is aimed at all members of the medical profession, it is mainly used by internists and junior doctors in this field, as well as medical students. It is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative books on internal medicine and is described as the most recognized book in all medicine. [2] The work is named after Tinsley R. Harrison of Birmingham, Alabama, who was editor-in-chief of the first five editions and established the shape of the work: a strong foundation of clinical medicine intertwined with an understanding of pathophysiology. This story was originally published in 1950 by Blakiston. [3] The quote from The Creator and Editor of Tensley Harrison appears on the first edition of this book in 1950: There is no greater opportunity or obligation to fall much on a human being than to be a doctor. In the care of his suffering they need technical skills, scientific knowledge and human understanding. He who uses them with courage, humility and wisdom will provide a unique service and build a lasting building of character within. The doctor should ask for his fate no more than that, and he should be satisfied with no less. Blackiston was acquired by McGraw-Hill in 1954. [4] The 17th edition of the book is dedicated to George W. Thorne, who is the editor of the first seven editions of the book and editor-in-chief of the eighth edition. The 18th edition of the book was edited by Anthony Fouchi, Dennis Cassier, Stephen Hauser, J. Larry Jamieson and Joseph Loscalzo. New chapters have been added: Health and Disease Systems Biology, Human Microbiome, Aging Biology and Neuropsychiatric Diseases in War Veterans. The 19th edition of the book is edited by Dennis Cassetter, Anthony Fouchi, Stephen Hauser, Dan Longo, J.Larry Jamieson and Joseph Loscalzo. AL.com in December 2014, he wrote that it was still the best-selling text of internal medicine in the United States and around the world, and that it had been reprinted 16 times and translated into 14 languages. [3] The 20th edition of the book was edited by Dennis Cassir, Anthony Fowsey, Steven Izer, Dan Longo, J. Larry Jamieson and Joseph Loscalzo. It was released on August 17, 2018.
